The OPTIMISM partners gathered in Barcelona, Spain, for the project’s final meeting and conference in May 2026. The event marked an important milestone, providing an opportunity to reflect on the project’s achievements, discuss its long-term impact and present the results to a wider maritime audience.

As part of the programme, the partners participated in the Maritime Transport Conference (MT26), held from 27 to 29 May. Professor Reza Ziarati presented two papers highlighting the project’s work on human factors and the lessons that can be learned from ISM Code audits, port state control inspections and maritime accidents.

The presentations generated constructive discussions and valuable feedback from conference participants. Although the project is now approaching its formal conclusion, its training programme, publications and research results will continue to support safer maritime operations and a stronger safety culture.
